I have been asked to pray for multiple people lately or have people in my life that needed prayer. The thing I find myself praying for people the most is peace. It hit me the other day as I was asking God to give someone the peace that only comes from Him, how often I pray that. And then I thought, wow, Satan is so sneaky.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14.27
Jesus said that. If he said that, he meant it. He left us his peace. He didn't give it and take it away and then give it again and take it again, and so on. He gave it to us(if we are a believer). So how in the world are there so many of us struggling for it. Well, I believe a lot of it has to do with a lack of our faith(I am counting myself in this). Peace is a fruit of the spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we all live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.” Galatians 5:22-26 We only have those when we are truly tapping into the Spirit. If we start to take our mind off Jesus and his sacrifice and the fact that he give us LIFE ABUNDANT. We will have a lack of those fruits. A lack of peace. A lack of joy. A lack of gentleness(that one steps on my toes every darn time). Satan knows that peace is one of the easiest things he can steal from us. Peace is something he can steal without others even being totally aware of it. If my peace is gone, I can front with others while there is a whole battle brewing in my heart and in my mind. I cannot sleep at night because satan is making me think of all that is or could go wrong. I cannot eat without my stomach churning because I am thinking of the problem. I cannot concentrate on my quiet time with the Lord because satan is adamantly trying to take over with distractions. WE can overcome this. 2 Corinthians 10:5-6 English Standard Version (ESV)
" We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete." If we will battle Satan, we can beat him. He that is in us is greater that He that is in the world. The thing is, we often just moan about our lack of peace and forget to go to war. War is hard. But we battle with our sword(the Word) and we will win. Then, we have to quit going back to it. That is the hardest part to me. I kill a thought but then I run back to it again later. We have to learn to just let it go. If we truly take the thought captive and give it to Christ, we need to be done with it. God is far wiser than I am. He is ever faithful. He is GOOD. Why in the world do I doubt this? I need to have complete faith and claim the peace that is there for me to take, because he said it was, and live easier. Satan wants us in turmoil. Inner turmoil only leads to outer turmoil. He knows his battle plan well. I am determined to have my battle plan prepared a little more, and I am darn sure ready to win. We are meant to have peace in our lives. That does not mean that everything will be perfect, because it won't be, but it means that in true faith, we can have true peace. It's a daily process but it is one I am determined to be better at.
