Lessons from 2013

Let me start by saying, It makes my heart smile so very much when people say they read my blog. I try to write a blog every year looking back on what all has happened through out the year.  We moved houses.  I became a teacher in the college department at church and Dustin became the director over it.  We joined a gym together and I discovered I love Kickboxing.  Like the class, not the actual fights.  We traveled ALOT.  Cruised twice and went to Tennessee three times.  Everytime I look back on the year, all I keep seeing is God is faithful.  God is good.  I see Him blessing me and teaching me things.  So I decided to just list some lessons I learned this year.

  • Apologies are sometimes hard to say, but they are good for the soul.
  • People just want someone who truly cares.  It doesn't matter their background or their age.
  • A roadtrip for 12 hours is dumb.  Fly. (no, there were no fights or arguments with friends.  we just all realized that is a long time to be crammed in a van.)
  • Don't try to look for things to be mad about.  People look at things differently and they might have truly meant no harm.
  • Accepting apologies are also good for the soul.
  • Food will always be a battle.  Eat and enjoy it, but be careful not to sin in the process.  Gluttony is a sin.
  • Exercise is good for all aspects of your life.
  • Coffee is one of God's greatest creations.
  • The written letter is an undervalued form of communication.  When you send or receive it, it will make you happy.
  • True Worship is the fuel that flames my fire.  It is so very pleasing to God and I feel Him smiling on me when I participate in it.
  • God expects compassion and grace and mercy.  When you offer it, you please Him.  When you don't, you sadden His heart.
  • I am only truly living like Christ when I love.  Love without boundaries.  Love no matter the sin, the age, the disagreement, the politics.  Just love.
  • Support your friends.
  • Encouragement is one of those things that can make or break someone.  When you believe that people can, they start believing it too.
  • Having a friend write a book and autograph it for you is really cool and you will open it often to remember that people do notice little things.
  • People do notice little things.
  • Food is important.  Cook it, share it, buy it, pray over it, laugh around it, and soak in life with it.
  • Solving the worlds problems can be done over a good game of Spades.
  • One of the greatest joys is having friends who are just like family.  When they agree to agree with you in prayer over things, you will see fruit.
  • Hard stuff happens.  That is why people, jobs, money, etc cannot be the source of your JOY.  It must be Jesus.
  • God is faithful and good.  He is working all things for your good and your anointed purpose.
I always say this and pretty much nobody ever comments BUT I would love to hear from you.  What is a lesson God taught you or is teaching you this year.  Thank you all for reading.  PLEASE, let me hear from you.

  1. That's beautiful, Haley! I love it. Okay so God has taught me that He truly loves me and cares for me even when I fail Him. Of course, I try my best to live the life He called me to but I fail constantly as we all do. The devil has really brought me down countless times for my failures and it finally just clicked (after the Beth Moore conference) that He accepts me AND my failures. I'm still hard on myself but it's different now. I have an amazing peace knowing that He loves me unconditionally. It's so much better living this way.

  2. It makes my heart smile to read your blogs. Thank you for sharing and giving me something wholesome to read:) I share many of the same realizations and lessons with you this year. The greatest thing I have learned and live by daily is that everything happens for a reason. Where we live, the family we have, the people who come in and out of our lives are all for a special purpose. Through all of lives challenges I have encountered I have learned to always remember to find the good in everything and slow down enough to notice and to enjoy the every day miracles that happen that often get unnoticed and be extra thankful for another day to get to witness them:)
