I am currently reading Can We Talk? by Priscilla Shirer. She is one of my very favorite teacher/writer/speakers. The week that I am currently on is discussing who we are in Christ. A princess, a masterpiece, chosen, etc. One of the verses I am studying today spoke to me in a way it never has. I, in no way, take any credit for this. Mrs. Shirer put it down on paper and the Holy Spirit, so very graciously, allowed me to take it in. I could not keep it to myself. So..you few readers get to hear about it.
The verse is 1 Peter 2:9 "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, SO that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." I use this verse all the time when teaching teenagers. Trying to let them know how very special they are to God. That He, the Creator of the universe, chose them. That they are priests that can go before the Throne whenever they want/need. That they are holy and are to live their lives accordingly. That they are HIS POSSESSION, and they are valued above all else. I have read it and used it a billion times. But today, I caught the SO in that verse. I am all of those things SO that I can "proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called me.." WHOA. He did not tell me all of those things just to make me feel good about myself and sit an be satisfied. I know it is not a new concept. I know I am supposed to proclaim. I am supposed to love. I am supposed to live a life that points every minute of every day to the One who left glory to die so that I might live in joy here and eternally with Him. Somehow I have always missed the point of that whole verse. Somehow I thought it was just a love letter telling me how awesome that I was in His eyes. I believe it is that, BUT it is also a love letter to motivate me to get off my behind and PROCLAIM HIS EXCELLENCIES.
Thank you Priscilla Shirer for being a tool of the Most High. Thank you Father for lifting the veil from my eyes today to a verse I have encountered so many times, but never caught the whole meaning of. Thank you for chosing me, for making me royalty, and a priest. Thank you for making me Holy. Thank you that I AM YOURS ALONE. And thank you for the opportunity to proclaim who you are and the awesome things you do.
